36: Ordain Women with Kate Kelly

Matt sits down with Kate Kelly from Ordain Women, as well as Kaimi Wenger and Heather, to discuss: women, priesthood, and the push for female ordination.

Ordain Women

The big question, I think, is can we accept that God could ordain a woman? He called a fourteen year old boy to restore the gospel, and we allow that rather fringe (fringe to the rest of Christianity) idea to shape and mold our history and narrative. Can the LDS community allow for God to do something again that is outside the norm/comfort level? (This is, of course, assuming you are a believing LDS member). I personally hope so.

Agree, Travis. However one thinks change comes about in the LDS church, I think it is hard to know how much has in fact changed and not have at least some humility about the idea that this particular thing could also change.

I wanted to share a quote that I thought fit well with this dissicuson.

“Cherish your agency, and don’t give it away casually. — Don’t accept somebody else’s interpretation of how you should be spending your time. Make the best decision you can and then evaluate it to see how it works.”

“Be spiritually independent enough that your relationship with the Savior doesn’t depend on your circumstances or what other people say and do. Have the spiritual independence to be a Mormon – the best Mormon you can – in your own way. Not the bishop’s way. Not the Relief Society president’s way. Your way”.

Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency
