Missionaries control the conversation? I suppose. Still, in a missionaries mind the intended message often transcends most other messages.

This is the only episode that I’ve seen, but I went into full-on panic mode when the kid (don’t remember his name) was talking about how his band got a record deal but he chose to go on a mission instead. When his mother was crying and talked about how scared they were that he might choose not to go on a mission, my blood pressure was going through the roof. All of that FEAR that we are raised with and all the pressure to live your life in a certain or your worthless is so troubling now that I’m on the other side.

I totally feel what you’re saying Sonya. Even though I’ve left the church I’m still a BYU sports fan. A few weeks ago while at a game I heard one man say to another how his son hadn’t served his mission because of issues with “sin” but that he was coming around by going to school and dating a “good girl”. I felt bad for this guy and his son. Not only does his son have to live with the pain, but it creates a kind of black mark on the whole family, and the parents question whether or not they did things “right” for the rest of their lives.
