Wow, this was the most sane and reasonable appearance I’ve ever heard from Mike Tannehill on a podcast. Did you guys just cut out the crazy parts, or is there something about Porter Rockwell that suppresses his urge to go off on theological tangents?

In any case, really interesting discussion, I learned a lot.

That was a fun podcast to listen to. Nice job, T. Mike and others :)
I think Heather hit the nail on the head about why Mormons “need” others as a folk hero.
He provides a place for people who do not quite fit into the correlated church. I have met a lot of people from small ranching communities in Wyoming and other western states that really hold the man up as their mascot. They want to feel like it is alright for them to drink, swear and fight, and still have a place within the LDS church. I say more power to those people…

After listening to the episode, I realize that I made it sound as if I used to have great loyalty to Joseph Smith. That isn’t what I meant. I meant to say that feeling intense loyalty to specific people in my life is a personality trait of mine. So I related to it when I saw it in Rockwell.

Mike actually admitted there was a Joe Smith descendant from a polygamous wife? Wow, didn’t get that from approved sources I bet Mike.

It seems as long as an individual is loyal to the LDS church, or to Joseph Smith, that Mike is willing to ignore all their flaws and sins, including murder. Lucky Porter didn’t like man sex huh Mike? How long was he in the clink?

Heather, I appreciated hearing you keeping Mike honest on his sources. I let out a silent cheer each time!

In Mike’s defense on the JS progeny issue – if god gave JS wives, he could have sex with those wives without sin/fornication/adultery. If children resulted, that’s simply more celestial glory for JS through his posterity and their priesthood. I feel like I’ve missed something here, maybe some history of Mike denying JS progeny?

In any case – GREAT episode. Thoroughly enjoyable. I loved Porter Rockwell and J Golden Kimball stories on my mission because, as you all stated, they made me feel like I wasn’t a bad person after all – just because I couldn’t act or do the mission like the other missionaries. Love the new podcast, keep it up.
